About Artawi Gallery
Artawi Gallery is an independent art space based in Addis Ababa, founded in December 2023. The gallery focuses primarily on photography while also supporting emerging painters and multidisciplinary artists.
Since its opening, Artawi Gallery has hosted over 20 exhibitions, along with a range of public programs including art talks, workshops, and community-driven initiatives. The gallery continues to build a growing creative community through both exhibitions and experimental projects.
Role Overview
Artawi Gallery is offering an internship opportunity for individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience in a contemporary art space.
The intern will work closely with the Gallery & Programs Manager and support the overall operations of the gallery. This role is designed for someone who is curious, motivated to learn, and interested in understanding how exhibitions, programs, and creative communities are built and managed.
This is a practical, learning-focused role with direct exposure to the day-to-day workings of an independent gallery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Gallery Support & Daily Operations
Assist in maintaining the gallery space (cleanliness, organization, readiness)
Support in receiving visitors and guiding them through exhibitions
Help with basic daily operational tasks
2. Exhibition & Installation Support
Assist during exhibition setup and takedown
Support artwork handling and preparation
Help organize materials and exhibition logistics
3. Program & Event Assistance
Support workshops, talks, and community events
Assist in coordinating participants and preparing materials
Help with on-site event execution
4. Artist & Administrative Support
Assist in organizing artist submissions and documents
Support communication follow-ups when needed
Help maintain basic records and archives
5. Content & Documentation
Assist in documenting exhibitions and events (photo/video)
Support content preparation for social media
Help with simple creative tasks when required
