ሸክላ እና ክር

ዛሬ የፈለግነውን ሙዚቃ በኪሳችን ባለው ስልክ በቀላሉ የምናዳምጥበት ዘመን ከመድረሱ በፊት፣ የሙዚቃ ታሪክ ሌላ መልክ ነበረው። በሬድዮ ጣቢያዎች ሙዚቃን በየቤቱ ማዳመጥ ከተጀመረ በኋላ፣ ወደ ግል ህይወታችን የገባበት ዋነኛው መንገድ በሸክላ ማጫወቻዎች እና በሪል-ቱ-ሪል (ሣጥን በሌለው ክር) ማጫወቻዎች ነበር። የሙዚቃ ሥራዎች በሪል እየተገለበጡ፣ በሸክላ ዲስኮችም ሳይበላሹ እየተሸጡ፣ ሰዎች በገበያ ከሚቀርቡት ውስጥ ምርጫቸውን በገንዘብ አቅማቸው እየገዙ እንደፈለጉ በቀያየሩበት ዘመን የሙዚቃ ገበያው ትልቅ የሀገራዊ ምጣኔ ሀብት አካል ነበር።

በወቅቱ እነዚህ የሙዚቃ ማጫወቻ መሣሪያዎች ውድ ስለነበሩ፣ በሀገራችን ኢትዮጵያ የከተማው ነዋሪዎች ሙዚቃ ለማድመጥ ወደ ቡና ቤቶችና ሌሎች የሕዝብ መዝናኛ ስፍራዎች ይሄዱ ነበር። እነዚህ ማጫወቻዎች የድምፅ ምንጭ ብቻ ሳይሆኑ፣ የከተማችን የባህል መገለጫዎችም ነበሩ። ይህ “ሸክላ እና ክር” የተሰኘ ዐውደ ርእይ፣ ይህንን ዓለም አቀፋዊ የሙዚቃ ተደራሽነት ጉዞ ለመዘከር የተዘጋጀ ነው።

በዚህ ኤግዚቢሽን፣ የቀድሞ ትውልድ ሙዚቃን በምን ዓይነት ማጫወቻዎች አማካኝነት በየቤቱ እና በየሰፈሩ እንዳዳመጠው ለማስቃኘት እፈልጋለሁ። እነዚህ መሳሪያዎች የሙዚቃ ማድመጫ ብቻ አልነበሩም፤ የቤት እቃዎች፣ የክፍል ጌጦች፣ እና የተወደዱ የትዝታ ሳጥኖች ነበሩ። ከአስገራሚ ቅርጻቸው እስከ ምቾት የሚሰጡ ድምጻቸው ድረስ፣ እነዚህ ማጫወቻዎች ሙዚቃን የማድመጥን ልምድ ወደ ሌላ ደረጃ አሳድገውታል። እነኚህ ማጫወቻዎች ከቤት ዕቃነት ተራ እየለቀቁ በምን በምን እየተተኩ እንደሄዱ እያሰላሰላችሁ ይህንን “ሸክላ እና ክር” የተሰኘ ዐውደ ርእይ እንድትጎበኙ እጋብዛለሁ።

Vinyl and Reel

Before we reached this modern age where we can stream any song on demand, the history of music was very different. After the radio made its way into homes, the primary method for personal music consumption was through phonographs and reel-to-reel players. Musical works were copied onto reels and purchased as they were on vinyl disks, allowing people to choose from what was available in the market and listen to it as they wished. At the time, the music market was a significant part of the national economy.

Since these music players were expensive, urban dwellers in our country, Ethiopia, would go to public places like coffee houses and bars to listen to music. These players were not just sources of sound; they were cultural symbols of our city. This exhibition, titled “Vinyl and Reel,” is organized to commemorate this global journey of music accessibility.

In this exhibition, I want to show how past generations listened to music in their homes and neighborhoods. These devices were not merely for playing music; they were also pieces of furniture, decorative items, and cherished vessels of memories. From their amazing shapes to the comforting sound they produced, these players elevated the experience of listening to music. I invite you to visit this "Vinyl and Reel" exhibition and reflect on what replaced these players as they slowly transitioned from being essential household items.

የቪኒል አለም ጉዞዬ

የቪኒል አለም ጉዞዬ የጀመረው 19 አመቴ እያለሁ ሲሆን ፣ የሰባት ዓመት ዕድሜ ያስቆጠረ የፊልም ትዕይንት ለዚህ መነሳሳት ምክንያት ሆነኝ። ለመሰብሰብ ያደረኩት የመጀመሪያ ሙከራ ስህተት የሞላበት ትምህርት ነበር - መጀመሪያ ያገኘኋቸውን የሙዚቃ ዲስኮች ፀሀይ ላይ እንዲደርቁ ትቼ በማላውቀው መንገድ አበላሽቻቸዋለሁ። ነገር ግን ያ የመጀመሪያ ስህተት ፍላጎቴን ይበልጥ አቀጣጠለው። እኔ ሙኒብ ሸምሱ ነኝ፣ የቪኒል ሪከርድ እና የጥንታዊ ቅርሶች ሰብሳቢ፣ እንዲሁም የቪኒል ዲጄ ነኝ።

ባለፉት አመታት እውቀቴን እና ስብስቤን አስፋፍቻለሁ፤ ከጥገና - ራሴን ካስተማርኩት የተበላሹ ማጫዎቻዎችን የመጠገን ክህሎት - ብርቅዬ ዲስኮችን እስከ ማደን ደርሻለሁ። ከምንም በላይ የምወደውና የምንከባከበው ግኝቴ ኮሜንዳቶር ሳላህ አህመድ ቼቺያ የተባለ ግለሰብ ንብረት የነበረ፣ ኢትዮጵያ ታሪካዊ አካል ጋር የሚያገናኘኝ የኮሎምቢያ 78 RPM ሼላክ ነው።

"Vinyl and Reel" ለስራዬ ያለኝን ቁርጠኝነት የሚያሳይ ሲሆን፣ ማጫዎቻዎችን እና ሪከርዶችን ብቻ ሳይሆን ከኋላቸው ያሉትን ታሪኮች እና እነሱን ለመጠበቅ የሚያስፈልገውን የጥገና ስራ የሚያጎላ ነው።

A Journey into Vinyl

My journey into the world of vinyl began seven years ago when i was 19 years old, sparked by a scene in a movie. My first attempts at collecting were a lesson in trial and error—I ruined my initial finds by unknowingly leaving them to dry in the sun. But that early mistake only fueled my passion. I'm Munib Shemsu, a vinyl record and antique collector, and a vinyl DJ.

Over the years, I’ve grown my knowledge and collection, from repairing broken players—a skill I had to teach myself—to hunting for rare pieces. One of my most treasured finds is a Columbia 78 RPM shellac once owned by Commendator Saleh Ahmed Checchia

, a piece that connects me to a significant part of Ethiopian history.

"Vinyl and Reel" is a showcase of my dedication, highlighting not just the records and players, but also the stories behind them and the hands-on work required to preserve them.
