Old Ethiopian Photography Archive
(Long-term Project)
Overview
The Old Ethiopian Photography Archive is an upcoming long-term initiative focused on preserving, digitizing, and contextualizing historical photographic materials in Ethiopia.
Concept
The project seeks to collect and archive photographs from families, private collections, and independent sources , creating a visual record of everyday life, memory, and history across generations.
Context
Ethiopia holds a vast amount of photographic history that remains largely undocumented and at risk of being lost. Much of this material exists in private homes, often without proper preservation.
Inspired by archival platforms such as Vintage Addis, this project aims to expand the scope and depth of photographic preservation through a more community-driven and research-based approach.
